Assistant Director of Branding and Engagement

Branding and Message DevelopmentCreate and execute the vision and plan for Living Cities holistic communications strategy in order to more effectively spread the adoption of a new urban practice that dramatically improves the economic well-being of low-income people.Shape the public conversation about economic and racial disparities in cities through effective convenings, social media strategies, and the placement of press coverage, spokespersons, columns, and editorials; respond to national events in a timely and meaningful wayBuild, enhance, and unify Living Cities brand by overseeing the creation of online content and profiles that support the organization s work Engagement and Community ManagementWork with senior leadership to develop a comprehensive engagement strategy that incorporates online content, events, and communities of practiceDevelop strategy and content for campaigns to engage existing audiences and increase spread of influence to new audiencesPartner with program staff and manage event planning staff with an eye for delivering high-value, on-brand conveningsBuild and grow external relationships as well as supervise three junior and mid-level staff, to help them deliver their full potential Content Strategy and ProductionKeep abreast of current events and trends to inform the development of content that is meaningful, timely, and provocative. Drive Living Cities storytelling, engaging with Living Cities leadership and staff on the creation of practitioner focused tools and resources and other communications contentOversee all content initiatives, both internal and external, across multiple platforms and formats to drive engagement and use; enlist participation of staff in developing contentOversee design and development of major corporate products such as the Annual Report and websiteIn partnership with the COO, plan and administer the department s budget to ensure priorities are metQualificationsA minimum seven years of work experience in communications, content creation and distribution, and/or customer engagement, with experience working in two or more of the following domains media relations, thought leadership, social strategy, community management, analytics, brand managementDemonstrated record of success in advancing organizational goals and messages by communicating effectively and strategically in the mediaExceptional storytelling skills, with a well-developed capacity to tell a story using words, images, or audio, and a deep understanding of how to create content that draws an audienceStrong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain productive relationships and work with a range of colleagues, partners, and influencers (e.g. press, bloggers, and advocates)Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with aggressive deadlines and a high level of ambiguity, balancing long-term goals with day-to-day demandsTrack record of effectively managing others, providing guidance, coaching, and constructive feedback to staffDeep commitment to and interest in addressing economic inequality especially for low income Americans of color; experience in the urban, social change field is a significant assetSharp problem solving and critical thinking skills, with the business acumen and ability to utilize data and metrics to drive decision-makingExcellent project management skills, with the ability to manage large, multi-stakeholder events and initiativesCreativity, unafraid to take risks to inspire othersWillingness to embrace change and to adapt strategies based on new information and circumstancesIntellectual curiosity, with an orientation toward continuous learning; a passion for learning about the latest platforms, technology tools, and marketing solutionsBasic technical understanding of HTML, XHTML, CSS, Java, web publishing, Flash, etc. and a fluency in web analytics tools (Adobe Omniture, Google Analytics), social media marketing applications (HootSuite, Tweetdeck, etc.), Salesforce.com, outbound email tools, and leading social media monitoring platforms (Radian6, etc.)Bachelor s degree required, Master s Degree preferred
