Adweek is committed to maintaining a daily, constructive dialogue with the professionals, businesses and advocacy groups who make up both our audience and our industries of coverage. The Community Editor plays a central and vital role in this process, ensuring responsive communication with these audiences while also helping reflect their diverse perspectives as lead editor for contributed opinion pieces from non-staffers.
Because this position is both an editor and a liaison with some of our industries' brightest minds, this position requires a range of skills, including:
- Strong editing ability and knowledge of AP style
Project management basics
Content development and workshopping
Strong interpersonal skills
Excellent headline writing
Basic Photoshop skills such as cropping and resizing
Primary responsibilities include:
- Identifying and cultivating relationships with thought leaders
Coordinating and editing all opinion contributions to Adweek
Overseeing various advisory boards via scheduled contacts and personal responses as needed
Working closely with the Adweek events team to incorporate non-staff voices into conference lineups, webinars, etc.
Working with print editors to select and edit opinion contributions for the magazine
Planning and soliciting opinion pieces for key events in our industries of coverage, such as SXSW, CES, Cannes Lions and the Upfronts/NewFronts.
Serving as a backup editor for web and print teams when shorthanded
Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, at least 4 years of relevant experience and a strong awareness of Adweek's coverage, voice and style.
This job will be based in Adweek's New York City office or in Birmingham, Alabama.
