Are you an experienced journalist, technology enthusiast and natural leader? Adweek is looking for a pro to lead its growing team of tech reporters in New York. If you fill this role, you’ll have the freedom to hire additional reporters, craft a vision for our coverage and experiment with new ways to tell insightful stories. You should be a well-rounded journalist, comfortable managing a team, editing digital stories and magazine features, and writing as often as desired. Our newsroom is an energetic, kind and collaborative place with opportunities to podcast, host videos and more. Knowledge about ecommerce, AI, IoT, data and how technology is disrupting the advertising and marketing industries will give you a strong advantage.
This position is one of the most prominent in our newsroom and requires a range of skills, including:
- Strong editing ability and knowledge of AP Style
Aptitude for managing and mentoring reporters
Flawless news judgement and ability to provide insights and spot trends around the corner
Ability to work quickly and break news
A knowledgable, conversational writing style
Previous experience as a reporter
Familiarity with WordPress and social media platforms
Primary responsibilities include:
- Setting a vision for Adweek’s tech coverage
Working with reporters to establish beats and specialties
Developing and assigning story ideas for the web and print
Serving as the first edit on all tech stories
Organizing Adweek’s coverage of key industry events, including SXSW and CES
Representing Adweek on industry panels and TV interviews
Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, at least 5 years of relevant experience and a strong awareness of tech news and trends.
This job will be based in Adweek's New York City office.
