News West Publishing Company, Inc. is searching for an executive to take a diversified leadership role as the Managing Editor.

This position will oversee several department of the staff of News West Publishing Bullhead Division, and is responsible for managing, coaching and training the staff, while also managing the production of content for both print and digital media. This is a hands-on managerial role. This position will take a shared responsibility for the publications product output, planning, design, profitability and staff. This position requires a diverse skill set with the ability to manage a news team with a strong editorial background, recruit and interview staff, provide performance-based feedback to staff, and work positively with community members and colleagues alike, to include joining organizations that discuss community affairs: Rotary, Chamber, etc. An expressed affinity for recognizing changes and opportunities in the marketplace is crucial to successful marketing and sales. This position requires a proactive approach for generating revenue growth of advertising sales within the daily newspaper, as well as with online and niche products.

This position will engage with managers and their staff, in addition to readers, advertisers and vendors. A collaborative approach will provide the necessary foundation to build a strong team, providing hands-on operational leadership in all areas, with an emphasis on bottom-line growth. Audience development, creative direction, staff development and motivation are all equally important.

The ideal candidate shall possess:

Mid-level media company leadership experience, strong editorial.

5+ years experience managing 15 or more employees in the newspaper, media, magazine industry.

Collaborative and enthusiastic leadership qualities, engaging employees and, equally important, with vendor accounts in the communities served.

Ability to exhibit strength and guidance in newspaper operations: editorial, marketing, and team building.

Desire to effectively communicate and delegate tasks/schedules.

Ability to interact with a variety of personalities and vendors.

Creative and strategic work-flow solutions.

Ability to provide expense and budget data and fiscal projection both quarterly and annually as your position develops.

Ability to manage and develop a staff of journalists, instilling best practices of both print and digital.

Ability to organize and motivate a news staff into a highly effective team with the ability to deftly handle breaking news coverage, feature writing, enterprise reporting and writing editorials and columns, daily.

Ability to constructively engage with the community, including public speaking; knowledge of AP style, journalistic ethics and fundamentals of media law is essential.

Ability to assign stories directly to reporters; approve or deny pitched news and feature stories; play an advisory role in deciding how stories are reported; recommend or require that a particular story appear on the first page above the fold or recommend that a story be held for a different day; communicate compliance with style standards.

Ability to provide employees performance-based feedback, consistent guidance and aid in the company s communication initiatives.

Ability to listen, provide strategic feedback, take direction (Vice President of Operations) and provide delegation (employees/managers).

Compensation will be commensurate with experience:

Base annual salary ($50,000 to $65,000).
