Officer, Strategic Proposal, Bay

The Proposal Writer, Strategic Initiatives is responsible for researching and writing a wide variety of strategic donor communications, including proposals, case statements, letters of inquiry, impact reports, and acknowledgement letters in support of local, regional, and system-wide fundraising priorities. The Proposal Writer, Strategic Initiatives translates complex projects and technical language into accessible, compelling documents that inspire giving and clearly demonstrate the impact of philanthropy on patient care. The position serves as an expert in narrative writing for donor audiences and provides editing and proofreading support for the Philanthropy Department as needed. The Proposal Writer, Strategic Initiatives works collaboratively with philanthropy colleagues across the Bay Area in Campaigns and Strategic Initiatives, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Major Gifts, Philanthropy Communications, and Stewardship. As an experienced writer and fundraiser, the Proposal Writer, Strategic Initiatives also manages a small principal gift portfolio of private and family foundation prospects.
Major Donor Solicitation
Research, write, and edit high-quality, targeted proposals, letters of inquiry, and presentations to major ($25,000 ) and principal ($1m ) gift prospects in collaboration with philanthropy colleagues and clinical leaders
Write compelling case statements, presentation materials, and other collateral in support of approved local, regional, and system-wide fundraising priorities
Impact Reporting
Research and write individualized reports to principal donors and other targeted donor constituencies to demonstrate the impact of philanthropic giving and inspire continued support
Serve as an internal resource for best practices in narrative impact reporting and identify creative ways to communicate impact of giving in partnership with stewardship and philanthropy communications colleagues
Campaigns & Strategic Initiatives
Support campaigns and strategic initiatives at the local, regional, and system levels by working with key philanthropy, clinical and administrative leaders to develop case statements, proposals, and other fundraising materials in support of diverse fundraising priorities
Corporate & Foundation Relations
Manage a portfolio of prospects identified by the Area Director, CFR and Strategic Initiatives, identifying and implementing strategies for prospect qualification, solicitation, and stewardship
Provide support for CFR officers in writing LOIs and grant proposals to corporate and foundation prospects
Research CFR prospects and prepare detailed briefs for Gift Officers and leadership
Philanthropy Communications
Provide writing, editing, and proofreading support for philanthropy communications, special events, and stewardship projects as needed
Requirements:
A bachelor s degree or equivalent, advanced degree or certification preferred, plus a minimum of five years of experience writing and developing case statements in a health care environment or philanthropy program
Strong interpersonal skills, self-confident, diplomatic, collaborative, team player, strategic, good judgment, with utmost respect for confidentiality.

Certificate in Philanthropy from Accredited Organization Preferred
The ideal candidate must have the ability to prioritize in a highly complex and fast-moving environment while working with multiple individuals and agendas in virtual locations. He or she should also be able to keep the larger vision in mind even while working with a team to support the smallest details. The ability to engender trust with a wide range of people will be crucial as will confidentiality and finesse in what is a high-touch stewardship-oriented role. It will be important that this person enjoys working independently but also thrives in an environment of interdependence.
