Staff Writer, Creativity Beat

If you obsess over clever marketing, bold ideas, bizarre branded stunts and the cultural impact of advertising, we've got the perfect job for you. Adweek is hiring a full-time staff writer for our creativity coverage team. On this beat, you'll cover the highs and lows of modern marketing, with a focus on artistry, insights and innovations that go into each piece of newsworthy content.

This position will be based in Adweek's Manhattan headquarters and reports to the Creative and Innovation Editor.

Responsibilities:

● Write multiple articles per day about creative marketing work, including videos, outdoor/out-of-home ads,

● Collaborate with Adweek's visual newsroom, social media specialists and other beat teams to create well-packaged and innovative content

● Contribute consistently to Adweek's print edition

● Plan and help execute video content focused on creative leaders, trends and ideas

● Proactively pitch story ideas beyond daily coverage for both Adweek.com and Adweek's print edition

● Help coordinate large projects and franchises, such as Adweek's Creative 100

● Assist in identifying topics and speakers for Adweek-hosted events

● Serve as a backup for writers on related beats, such as brand marketing and agencies

● Assemble, test and send Adweek's creativity email newsletter each day

Requirements:

● A bachelor's degree in journalism, advertising or a related field

● At least 3 years of experience covering marketing, creativity or related fields

● Strong interviewing and writing skills

● Proficiency with AP Style

● Awareness of the advertising industry, its major players and the process behind marketing creativity

The ideal candidate will also be:

● Familiar with Adweek's coverage of creativity and related topics, such as brand marketing, agencies and media

● Comfortable on camera, whether interviewing a source or being interviewed by a national news outlet

● Familiar with WordPress or similar content management systems

● A collaborative team player who can work smoothly with fellow writers, editors across multiple beats and freelancers

● Adept at spotting trends, themes and potentially problematic messaging in advertising

● An aspiring editor looking for opportunities to expand your skill set
